Carpenter & Cook @ Lorong Kilat
Carpenter And Cook (C&C) at 19 Lorong Kilat (Upper Bukit Timah) was featured in the 8 Days magazine recently. I had to try the tarts after seeing the pictures so off we went. We arrived shortly after 4pm and man was the place packed! I was captivated by the interior of the patisserie – it was so vintage. Items on display are available for purchase too. w00t~ Most of the patrons seem to be finishing up their tea break and we were seated with the help of Phoebe after a few minutes. I must say, the pastries are definitely worth the wait!

Lemon Cream Tart ($7)
I love the freshness of the lemon cream as it melts on my tongue! Oo-la-laaaa! Pastry chief sure did preserve the sour taste of the lemon well with this tart yet keeping it balanced with the crust such that it is not too overpowering or too sour. Enjoyable! I had such a happy time biting chunks off the tart and savoring it. Absolutely love it!
Scones with Butter and Homemade Jam ($4)
Chef has good hands and recipe for the scones, at least to our liking, much. The hardness is just nice such that it does not crumble into tiny pieces when it’s cut into and it’s chewy without the floury taste nor does it stick to my teeth (oh ya, some scones do >.<). It’s quite plain without the butter or the jam so I decided to make full use of the butter and strawberry jam that was on our plates. The texture of the butter is oh so nice. Some places have it too watery while others, too thick or heavy. I do like C&C’s butter as it brings a light flavor and blends in so well with the scone. The surprise with this was the strawberry jam – it tastes so fresh! Later did we find out from Phoebe that the jam is homemade without preservatives. Ahhh… no wonder. The Homemade Jams can be purchased at $12.50.
My taste buds were extremely satisfied at the end of the pastry treat we gave ourselves (^-^)v

Cranberry & Roasted Pistachio Shortbread ($9)
This packet of cookies was an unexpected purchase and I am so glad that I bought it. I swear that love has been put into even the packaging of the cookies! The brown bag can be easily unwrapped by flipping up the flaps at the edges and the cookies, the cookies are ziploc-ed! No need to look for a clip to tie it up or a container to keep it fresh. Ziploc! Very thoughtful *thumbs up*
I am munching happily away on the cookies while typing. Fragrant, crunchy cookies these are with a sweet after-taste. Real smooth, these cookies. Me like!
A place not to be missed, I say!
